HP IPTV is a standards-based video-over-IP platform that enables service providers to deploy a high-quality video delivery service that enables subscribers to watch live broadcasts or on-demand video content whenever, wherever, and however they want it.
Solution overview
IPTV is now a reality over DSL (Digital Subscriber Lines), FTTx (Fiber To The
neighborhood, curb or home) and Ethernet to the home. HP has assembled a
complete solution for Telcos to have end-to-end delivery of IPTV services using
Kasenna Living Room and MediaBase XMP running on HP ProLiant servers based on
the industry standard Intel® Xeon processor family. This IPTV solution allows the operators to define the types of services offered, to customize the subscriber interface accordingly and manage the delivery of content to various devices in the digital home, including set-top-boxes or media center PCs.
Target market
HP's end-to-end solution is for wireline operators and Service Providers who
want to deploy IP Television services including VOD. It is well suited for the
Telco who already has Voice and Data (Broadband) services, and wants to offer
"Video" in a Triple Play of services.
Key components
HP's IPTV solution for Telcos is based around 4 major areas:
Head-end for ingesting content and re-distributing it to video pumps
Video delivery pump and middleware
DRM - Digital Rights Management
Digital Home - Set-top-box and local redistribution.
The solution uses Kasenna LivingRoom to handle video asset management, subscriber management, and to control the user experience. This middleware application interfaces directly to Kasenna MediaBase XMP, a set of software modules for deploying video-based applications, to manage the activity of the video pumps.
